What the restoration team handles
A roofer or a tarp stops the water from above. The restoration team deals with everything the water reached below the roof deck.
- Thermal imaging and moisture meters trace wet decking, insulation, ceiling drywall and wall cavities.
- Saturated blown insulation is removed, because it holds water against the ceiling.
- Ceiling drywall is dried in place when it is firm, and removed safely when it sags.
- Air movers and LGR dehumidifiers dry the attic framing and the rooms below to the drying goal.
Storm claims and documentation
After a big hail day, adjusters see many claims at once. A clean file helps: timestamped photos of the interior damage before any removal, a moisture map, daily readings and the category and class of the loss. Coverage depends on your policy, so it is worth checking with your own insurer.
Water dripping from a light fixture? Switch off that circuit at the panel, put a bucket under it and keep clear. A bulging ceiling can come down without warning.
Storm information
The NOAA Storm Prediction Center tracks severe hail outlooks for North Texas, and the Texas Department of Insurance publishes homeowner information on storm claims. Interior leaks with no storm involved are covered on the ceiling leak page.
